This collection shows the painful event of Shimazaki’s nephew’s funeral, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles in the late 1990’s. Only 20 years later is the artist able to revisit the images. Juxtaposing the grief and senseless violence with the coming together of a loving community, these photos are a hopeful prayer for peace.
